Arun Nursery School: Extra-Curricular Activities and their impact on children

In India, there is a very common orthodox belief that every child needs to perform well in academics to build a successful career. There are very few parents who let their child pursue a career in sports and arts. Now, if one scrutinizes this condition, he will find that the core reason behind this practice lies with the schools. The education pattern followed in schools puts so much pressure on children for excelling in academics that the impact which extra-curricular activities may have on a child’s life is not even realised. This is why there are many talented dancers, singers, actors, sportsperson, etc. who get lost in the crowd of that competition.

Mrs. Sumitra Mitter of Arun Nursery School (ANS) realises and recognises the importance of extra-curricular activities and the vital role they play in moulding a better future for her students. Her school is climbing the stairs of success because of the balance it maintains between academics and extra-curricular activities like sports. Moreover, all the teachers of this school are trained in engaging the students in fun-filled activities to make the learning process easier.

What Are Extra-Curricular Activities?

Every form of art and sports which is included in the school curriculum is counted as an extra-curricular activity. Dancing, singing, playing musical instruments, physical training, yoga, sports, etc. all come under the ambit of extra-curricular activities. There are very few schools in India that implement these activities in their annual session. Arun Nursery School is one of the rare few which tends to involve every student in these kinds of activities- in order to enhance their skills and make them realize their passion.

Why Is It Important?

There are various studies that reveal that children who are engaged in physical training and extra-curricular activities show a faster and stronger physical and mental growth.

By performing different activities students can recognize their area of interest. Every child has a hidden talent and is good at something which might not always be a particular subject. Mrs. Sumitra Mitter, the principal of Arun Nursery School, strongly believes in this- which is why she provides all forms of extra-curricular activities in her school.

It helps in the physical growth of a child. Performing dance, yoga or exercises are good forms of physical activities that help in keeping the body fit and healthy.

Students will become happier and and increasingly eager and curious to go to school every day to find what new activity they can perform. The everyday bookish learning process can be boring and tiresome for agile brains.

It fuels the curiosity of children and helps them in learning new things on their own.

The impact of extra-curricular activities on children’s lives is much more influential than it is generally perceived to be. While selecting the right school, one should look for a school which offers the children a chance to explore as many of these activities as possible.

  1. Nice info! In preschool, children learn not only educational things but also strengthen their social and emotional development. I did research about some renowned preschools in India, and I have found that Arun Nursery School is quite a good preschool for your child. Principal Mrs. Sumitra Mitter has been a teacher, a mentor in her life and so she understands very well the importance of preschool on developing children. Mrs. Mitter's husband Mr. Ranjan K. Mitter is the Principal of The Future Foundation School, a reputed school in South Kolkata and I believe this tradition of providing quality education is somewhere within them.

    1. Yes, even I have heard about The Future Foundation School and it's quite famous being an ICSE school in south Kolkata. I do feel the same that both Mr. Ranjan K. Mitter and his wife Mrs. Sumitra Mitter are dedicated enough towards educational things and their foundation.
